Consultation: Dual Language Street Naming Policy EQIA 2024

Derry City and Strabane District Council

Dual Language Street Naming Policy, Draft Equality Impact Assessment 2024

Derry City and Strabane District Council is seeking the views of the public in relation to a draft equality impact assessment report on the Council’s draft new Dual Language Street Naming policy.

Council has passed a motion to change the threshold of support for the installation of dual language signage to 15% of residents on the electoral register for the street. Following this decision, a new draft Dual Language Street Naming Policy was developed, and, in line with the commitments in our Equality Scheme, an equality screening was undertaken.

The screening report identified that, with mitigations, it does not appear that there will be specific negative impacts on equality of opportunity; the policy may indeed help to further the aims of the Good Relations duty by promoting a better understanding of the linguistic diversity which exists within the Council area. However, it was also concluded that it would be useful to carry out a detailed equality impact assessment, which would include a public consultation, to inform the final policy and identify whether any further mitigations are required.

Council would now like to hear your views in relation to the draft EQIA document.

Please submit your feedback by completing the survey.

Alternatively you can email equality@derrystrabane.com with your comments or contact the Council by telephone on 028 71 253 253 Ext 6705 or Ext 6706.

The consultation will remain open until Wednesday 31 July 2024

Consultation information is available on request in a range of formats and minority languages. Please contact us to discuss your requirements on 028 71 253 253 or e-mail equality@derrystrabane.com

Monitoring for Equality Purposes

We are also keen to monitor who replies to our consultations so there will be an option to complete additional equality monitoring questions at the end of the survey. If you are replying on behalf of a group or organisation you do not have to complete the monitoring form.
